Max the Modeling Mouse is a strategy animal in the CCSS-aligned Problem-Solving Pond series. Max uses a special rhyming poem to teach students how to use manipulatives or counters to represent and solve word problems. Modeling is a critical strategy because the visual representation allows students to see the situation presented in the problem in a concrete way. This K-3 unit provides differentiation opportunities and has been successfully used in general education, special education, RTI and math intervention settings across the nation.
